If you live or work in a north Georgia county serviced by a TVA-partnered EMC, you may be eligible for the best solar energy incentives in the state. Currently the Tennessee Valley Authority has authorized its member EMCs to buy your solar energy back from you at a rate in excess of 12 cents per killowatt hour over your prevailing energy rates. So if you currently pay $.10/kWh for your home or business' energy, the TVA will pay you $.22/kWh for the power generated from your solar panels. An average residential solar array producing 500 kWh a month would net you about $110 a month under this plan. Commercial savings could be much larger. The TVA has also sweetened their green power incentives by offering every customer a one-time $1,000 rebate to help offset the cost of solar panel installation.
Customers in the following counties may be eligible for these solar incentives: Catoosa, Chattooga, Fanning, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Towns, Union, Walker and Whitfield.
